From September 10th to 12th, 2024, we had the pleasure of hosting the first DIG4BIO Workshop, focusing on an Introduction to Python. This hands-on event was specifically designed for (bio)chemical engineers, providing them with a unique opportunity to acquire programming skills and apply them to real-world modelling challenges in their field. The workshop guided participants through Python syntax. Practical applications, such as upstream and downstream modelling, were explored, demonstrating how Python can play a critical role in modern (bio)chemical engineering practices.
Over the three-day event, participants followed a comprehensive program:
- Day 1 focused on Python basics and reactor design,
- Day 2 introduced case studies, including models for E. coli and diafiltration processes,
- Day 3 allowed participants to apply their new skills to hands-on projects, culminating in practical real-world applications.
The workshop featured insightful lectures by Carina L. Gargalo and Fiammetta Caccavale from DTU, supported by course assistants Johan Le Nepvou De Carfort (DTU), Rosa Haßfurther (TUB), and Rodrigo M. (IST), whose expertise enhanced the learning experience.
