๐๐ฑ๐ฐ๐ณ๐ฐ๐ฃ๐ฐ๐ญ๐ฐ๐ฎ๐บ๐ค๐ฆ๐ด ๐ณ๐ฐ๐ด๐ฆ๐ถ๐ด is a basidiomycete yeast, which includes several mushrooms. This species widely occurs in nature but is found preferentially associated with plants (i.e. leaves). However, it is worth mentioning that this strain was isolated from a culture of the marine macroalgae ๐๐ฐ๐ณ๐ฑ๐ฉ๐บ๐ณ๐ข ๐ฅ๐ช๐ฐ๐ช๐ค๐ข J.Brodie & L.M. Irvine 1997.
This yeast is characterized by the production of carotenoid pigments that give its colonies a reddish colour. It has incredible potential for biotechnological applications, namely the production of lipids and enzymes of industrial interest.
