From September 9 to 12, researchers from iBB – Institute for Bioengineering and Biosciences participated in the International Biosurfactants Conference, held in Aachen, Germany. The event brought together leading scientists from around the world advancing research and applications of biosurfactants.
Nuno Faria delivered an oral presentation on “Developing a Scalable Platform for Mannosylerythritol Lipids Production from Renewable Resources,” showcasing innovative strategies for producing these high-value microbial biosurfactants with potential applications in pharmaceutical and cosmetic products.
PhD student Joana Almeida presented a poster on “Valorization of Seafood Canning Industry Residues for Biosurfactant Production.” Her work highlights an integrated approach to sustainability by transforming food industry by-products into mannosylerythritol lipids, contributing to circular economy principles.
