On 16 July, the iBB community gathered at Tagus Park for another edition of iBB Day, combining scientific exchange, discussion on innovation, and team-building activities.
Professor Joana Mendonça opened the session with a discussion on the different modalities of innovation, introducing Design Thinking as a framework for turning research into impact. A round table followed, bringing together André Albergaria (Biovance Capital), who shared a venture capital perspective, and Professor Paula Videira, co-founder of CellmAbs and a finalist for the 2026 European Inventor Award (EPO) for her work on a highly selective cancer-detection antibody. The discussion offered complementary views from an investor and a researcher-entrepreneur on the different paths from lab bench to real-world impact.
The day also included presentations of iBB’s latest R&D projects funded under national and international programmes, highlighting ongoing research across the community.
The event continued with the traditional iBB barbecue, followed by team-building activities including Mikado, volleyball, and word games. A new addition this year saw old scientific posters repurposed as art pieces, with a winning team receiving prizes. The team-building activities were organised and run by PhD students Kristin Schüler, Maria Catarina Carreira, and Joana Almeida.
