Through the integration of strain development, regenerative fermentation, and AI-supported monitoring systems, INNOVALG aims to develop more efficient, scalable, and sustainable production processes for high-value microalgae.
By using agro-industrial side streams as alternative nutrient sources, the project contributes to a circular and regenerative bioeconomy, helping reduce waste, production costs, and environmental impact.
The project focuses on delivering innovative, science-based ingredients that support sustainability, food innovation, and human health.
Coordinated by Phycoferm Lda, and developed in collaboration with the University of Porto, Instituto Superior Técnico (iBB), and the University of the Azores, INNOVALG reflects a strong partnership between academia and industry to strengthen biotechnology and sustainable innovation in Portugal.
