Cruise
CRUISE was a project focused on the production Mannosylerythritol lipids (MEL) by Pseudozyma spp from lignocellulosic substrates and assessment of the application of MELs, a microbial biosurfactant as cleaning agent and fuel percusor. Therefore, CRUISE specific objectives were:
-to gain insights on the effect of main parameters impacting (MEL) production by Pseudozyma spp from lignocellulosic substrates;
-to study novel scalable processes for MEL production, as well as novel efficient up- and downstream stages for MEL production process;
-assess the use of MEL as biosurfactant for cleaning agent products and as oil mobilization; and
-assess potential MEL conversion by hydrogenation and transesterification in fuel molecules.
CRUISE was crucial to establish the current iBB platform for MEL production and respective Intellectual properties currently being further developed at SURFs UP and by iBB start-up Surfact Innov LDA.
