BIOSUCC

Acronym BIOSUCC Title Development and demonstration of a biological succinic acid production system based on dairy industry waste. Summary

Several studies have explored the production of bio-SA using Actinobacillus succinogenes, mainly due to its potential to use various waste sources thanks to its ability to ferment different sugar molecules, including whey. However, no industrial process is currently known to utilize this strain and this source. Recently, new tools have been developed to produce A. succinogenes strains with enhanced metabolisms optimized for SA production. Building on this background, the technological innovation proposed by the BIOSUCC project focuses on generating various mutant strains from a wild-type A. succinogenes strain. This strain can consume lactose and convert it into SA, which will be utilized in developing a bio-SA production biorefinery based on whey valorization.
