Expertise: Molecular Biology, DNA nanostructures, Plasmonic Nanoparticles
Thesis: TropoCount - An Optofluidic Assay for Miocardial Infarction Diagnosis based on Aptamer Actuated DNA Origami Plasmonic Nanosensors
Thesis Advisor: Pedro Paulo (CQE), Miguel Prazeres, João Fonseca (Biosurfit)
Company: Biosurfit
Short Bio:
Having completed a Masters Degree in Microbiology at the Instituto Superior Técnico of the University of Lisbon, José Santos began his research career as an assistant working under the Lactosynt project at iBB, working on the development of a genome editing system for use in lactic acid bacteria. More recently, he has leveraged his experience in molecular biology into the design and construction of DNA origami nanostructures. He intends to combine these with plasmonic gold nanoparticles to construct novel biosensors for detection of disease biomarkers.
