Expertise: Stem cell engineering, Pluripotency, Organogenesis, Tissue regeneration, Bioassembly.
Short Bio:
Tiago Fernandes research integrates engineering and biology to design stem cell fates and microenvironments, focusing on developing artificial niches to study human stem cell pluripotency. Using human pluripotent stem cells (hPSCs) as in vitro models, his work examines the effects of mechanical, matrix-related, and microenvironmental conditions on intracellular pathways. This systems-based approach aims to create cell culture models that mimic in vivo functions, advancing tissue regeneration and cell-based therapies. His specific research areas include human organogenesis, central nervous system development, brain microvasculature formation, and creating 3D microtissues for liver function and endoderm commitment.
