Expertise: 3D printing, material characterization, biomaterials, molecular biology
Short Bio:
Pedro Marcelino is a PhD student in Bioengineering at Institute for Bioengineering and Biosciences (iBB) from Instituto Superior Técnico, University of Lisbon and at the Centre for Rapid and Sustainable Product Development (CDRSP), Polytechnic of Leiria. He holds a master's degree in Biological Engineering (2021), with a thesis focusing on the characterization of electroconductive coatings and the design and manufacture of scaffolds mimicking the native architecture of the osteochondral tissue. After the thesis, under a research scholarship from CDRSP, he worked on numerical models describing the mechanical behaviour of scaffolds. In his current research, he is using numerical simulation as a tool for the development of hierarchical scaffolds, optimizing porosity and electrical gradients, and for the development of multiphysical stimuli bioreactor devices, in the context of osteochondral tissue engineering.
