Expertise: Alveolar Macrophages, Pulmonary drug delivery
Short Bio:
Mykaella Mestre is a PhD candidate in Bioengineering at Instituto Superior Técnico, in collaboration with Hovione, focusing on the development of alveolar macrophage in vitro models. She holds an integrated Master’s degree in Chemical and Biochemical Engineering from Faculdade de Ciências e Tecnologias da Universidade Nova de Lisboa. Her current research is centered on developing in vitro platforms to study how alveolar macrophages interact with inhalable drugs. Her work aims to predict and mitigate macrophage-related effects that can impact drug bioavailability and efficacy, thereby improving the development and screening of safer and more effective pulmonary formulations.
Research Focus:
Development of in vitro platforms to study alveolar macrophage interactions with inhalable drugs, aiming to predict and mitigate macrophage-related effects.
