Expertise: Yeast physiology and Molecular Biology, Clinical Microbiology, Genetics and Genomics, Transcriptomics and Proteomics, Systems Biology
Short Bio:
Miguel Cacho Teixeira received BSc and PhD degrees in Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology from the Technical University of Lisbon, Lisbon, Portugal, in 2000 and 2004, respectively. He is currently full professor at the Bioengineering Department of Instituto Superior Técnico (IST), University of Lisbon. He is also senior researcher at iBB - Institute for Bioengineering and Biosciences, Biological Sciences Research Group, IST. His research interests focus the molecular basis of drug resistance and stress tolerance in the model yeast S. cerevisiae, and of virulence and biofilm formation in pathogenic yeasts of the Candida genus. Miguel's research makes ample use of genome-wide analysis and systems biology tools, aiming the design of optimized cell factories and the improvement of diagnosis and therapy for the treatment of fungal infections.
