Expertise: Microbial bioreactors, Ultrafiltration/Nanofiltration, Membrane chromatography, Biopharmaceuticals, Algae-derived functional ingredients
Short Bio:
Marília Mateus is Assistant Professor at the Department of Bioengineering of Instituto Superior Técnico, ULisboa, and researcher at the Institute for Bioengineering and Biosciences. She graduated in Chemical Engineering (1984), further obtaining a Biotechnology–Biochemical Engineering masters’ degree (1988) and a PhD in Chemical Engineering (1994). During her career, she pursued advances in bioprocessing focusing on microbial culturing/immobilization, bioreactor operation, downstream strategies (membrane filtration, chromatography) targeting bioproduct purification, and process integration. Following her strong food technology knowledge and industrial technology transfer experience, she develops biorefinery approaches towards food/feed ingredients and investigates molecular/process design for safe and effective fish-farming vaccines.
