Expertise: Microbiology, mosquitoes, malaria, biofilms
Short Bio:
Margarida Marques graduated in Cellular and Molecular Biology in 2021 from Universidade Nova de Lisboa. In the same year, she enrolled in the MSc in Medical Microbiology, where she developed her thesis work on the characterization of the potential for biofilm formation by bacteria isolated from the intestinal microbiota of Anopheles mosquitoes. This work allowed her to come into contact with various areas, from microbiology to biophysics, biochemistry and entomology. Margarida started her PhD research at IHMT NOVA and BSIRG-iBB in 2024 with funding from FCT, focusing on manipulating the microbiota of Anopheles mosquitoes for malaria control strategies.
Research Focus:
Investigation on the manipulation of Anopheles microbiota for malaria control strategies.
