Expertise: plasmids, minicircles, DNA vaccines, recombinant proteins, biocementation
Short Bio:
I earned a Bachelor's in Biology from the University of Coimbra, followed by a Master's and Ph.D. in Biotechnology from Instituto Superior Técnico, Lisbon. Currently, I am an associate professor and coordinator of the Biological Engineering master's program at IST. My career has predominantly focused on designing and producing plasmid biopharmaceuticals, and more recently in the field of biocementation. I co-authored 102 articles in peer-reviewed international journals, with over 4600 citations (h-index 35 Google Scholar; h=28 Scopus). As an academic mentor, I have (co)supervised 15 Ph.D. and 37 M.Sc. theses.
