Expertise: Microbiomes, Microbial secondary metabolites, One health approach, Phylodynamics
Short Bio:
André C. Pereira earned his Master's in Applied Microbiology (2017) and PhD in Microbiology (2024) from the University of Lisbon. He works on the Blue Bioeconomy Pact project, exploring microbial symbionts’ roles in macroalgal health and growth in aquaculture. His research focuses on leveraging these microbes' biotechnological potential to develop safer, sustainable macroalgae cultivation within a circular bioeconomy. By combining bioinformatics and molecular biology, André aims to discover microbiota-produced metabolites that can enhance aquaculture production. He is also committed to science communication and outreach, sharing his research insights with broader audiences. Currently he is a post-doctoral fellow at the Microbial Ecology and Evolution Research Group (MicroEcoEvo) at Biological Sciences Research Group (BSRG).
