Several species of the genus Pseudomonas are known to be highly tolerant to solvents and environmental stress. Based on phylogenomic and comparative genomic analyses, some Pseudomonas species were recently transferred to a new genus named Halopseudomonas. often more stable and active under extreme conditions. This makes them ideal candidates for:
- Biocatalysis in industrial processes, especially those involving harsh chemical environments.
- Bioremediation, where they can help degrade pollutants in saline or solvent-rich environments.
- Sustainable Biotechnology, including the production of value-added compounds.
In a recently published paper, Carla C.C.R. de Carvalho, the student Pedro Mattos (DBE), and scientists from the Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research-UFZ and Forschungszentrum Jülich, both in Germany, evaluated the growth parameters and stress tolerance of five Halopseudomonas strains.
