Study the interaction between artificial matrices and stem cells and
the respective effect on cell fate, i.e self renewal vs.
differentiation. Neural stem cells are the model system and
electrospining the technique used to build tridimensional nanofiber
based matrices to be applied as cell scaffolds. The strategy followed
includes testing different scaffold properties in terms of fiber
diameter and matrices porosity, as well material stiffness,
hydrophobicity and preparation of hybrid materials, with synthetic and
natural polymers, such as proteins and polysaccharides.
